Wilson Middle School is an all-new 142,000 sf Performing Arts School constructed to replace the previous school buildings on the site. Completed for the San Diego Unified School District in the summer of 2021, the Wilson Middle School is the west side of what will eventually become an education campus once Central Elementary School, currently under construction on the east side, is completed in 2023.

The traditional school classroom has been reinvented at Wilson to provide a variety of diverse teaching spaces to teach and learn both inside and outside the classroom. Many innovative energy saving systems are built into the school’s design. Thermal chimneys that use a centuries old technique for cooling and ventilating the classrooms has been updated with 21st Century technology, and a 6,000 sf Solar Panel array that also functions as a Lunch Shelter are just two examples of sustainable energy efficient design that will be on display. The tour will include the school’s unique performing arts facilities including a 500-seat theater.
